Our easy kataifi recipe is a delicious dessert scented with ground cinnamon and ground clove wrapped into golden crispy kataifi pastry and smothered in sweet syrup. Our twist of 2 shots of ouzo adds another element of yumminess.

Ingredients

  • Kataifi pastry

  • 800 grams walnuts

  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 250 grams of butter

  • 2 shots ouzo

  • KATAIFI SYRUP
  • 3 cups white sugar

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 whole lemon peel

  • 4 cups of water

Instructions

  • Finely chop walnuts.
  • Combine white sugar, ground cinnamon, cloves and stir through 1 shot ouzo.
  • Melt butter and grease baking dish.
  • Prepare Kataifi pastry, stretching and cutting into a square shape.
  • Drizzle generous amount melted butter over prepared Kataifi square shape.
  • Add 1 tablespoon mixture into Kataifi square.
  • Roll it up tightly, folding inwards, to form a small cylinder.
  • Place the Kataifi roll in the baking dish and brush with melted butter.
  • Repeat with the rest of the Kataifi pastry and filling, leaving a gap between each piece.
  • Bake Kataifi in a preheated oven at 180C for about 20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  • Prepare Kataifi syrup, adding water, white sugar, cinnamon stick and whole lemon peel.
  • Allow syrup to combine and reduce slightly.
  • Ladle syrup over hot Kataifi and drizzle 1 shot ouzo over the top of each Kataifi.
  • Cover the baking dish for about 10 minutes allowing the syrup to be absorbed.
